The Scottish Government is carrying out a review of the arrangements currently in place for investigating the deaths of people being treated for mental illness, personality disorder or learning disability.
The Carers (Scotland) Act 2016 takes effect from April 1, 2018 to ensure better and more consistent support for carers so that they can continue to care, if they so wish, in better health and to have a life alongside caring.
In principle self-directed support provides an ideal way to modernise social care to make it consistent with human rights. In practice the challenges of implementation mean that there is still a long way to go.
