#stopthebus... We Want to Get On!

ENABLE Scotland’s #stopthebus campaign launches today. Too many people with learning disabilities are struggling to get a bus pass due to gaps in the National Concessionary Travel Scheme, and its implementation. The #stopthebus campaign aims to enable more people who have learning disabilities to access bus travel by improving access to the concessionary bus travel scheme throughout Scotland.

Being able to use transport can open up new avenues and opportunities that people with learning disabilities would otherwise be unable to access, like work or college, as well as social activities and just going out with friends.

The #stopthebus campaign:

  • Calls on the Scottish Government to extend the eligibility criteria of the National Bus Travel Concession Scheme to include disabled people in receipt of the lower rate mobility component of DLA in recognition of the support to travel their benefit award recognises they need.

  • Calls on the Scottish Government and Transport Scotland to ensure more people with learning disabilities can access the concessionary travel scheme through the non benefit-related route provided by the NCT002 form, with clarity on authorised persons that can complete the ‘certificate of eligibility’ that is standard across all local authority areas.
